【2nd week 01/07/17 - 07/07/17】

Still I can't get used to the summer time, but I have managed to get used to the school and life in Bournemouth.

Through these two weeks, I have realized that "I'm definitely Japanese". There are some reasons why I think this is so.

One thing is I haven't realized but I tend to say "Yes" when I am asked anything by someone, especially at dinner time. My host mother usually asks me; "Would you like some more?", then I don't know why, but I can't help saying "Yes". That's because of my Japanese blood I think.

The other thing is that I often make mistakes with articles like; "a", "an", and "the". We don't have articles in Japanese. My teacher told me that every Japanese student always makes mistakes with articles. However, surprisingly, my Swiss student told me that they have three different types of nouns and each has four types of articles! How do they manage?

By the way, this weekend, my high school students in Japan are going to have a baseball match. I really wanted to say good luck, so I made a video with my colleagues at my language school. I hope they will do their best! Good luck, Junshin!

相変わらず夜の22時なのに明るいこのサマータイムには慣れないけれど、学校とこちらの生活には慣れてきました。

この2週間を通して、「あぁ私はやっぱり日本人だなぁ〜！」と思うことが何度もありました。

まず、意識してなかったけどやっぱり質問されたときに「Yes」って言いがち。特に夕ご飯の時にこれを発揮してしまう。ホストマザーがよく「もう少しいる？」って聞いてくれるけど、なぜかお腹いっぱいでも「Yes」って言っちゃうのは、日本人の血でしょうか。(笑)

そしてもう一つは、喋るときも書くときも冠詞(a/an/the)を付け忘れがちなこと。この話をスイスの子としていたら、「スイスの言語では、一つの名詞に男性名詞・女性名詞・中性名詞の3つがあって、そのそれぞれに4種類の冠詞があるよ〜！」と言われました…そりゃ大変だ。。！

話は変わって、今週末に、以前関わらせてもらっていた高校の野球部の夏の選抜の試合があります。応援の声を届けたくて、学校のみんなにも協力してもらいました。みんなに「頑張って」を練習させまくったせいで、私のあだ名が「ガンバッテ・カナコ」になりました。(笑)

【Words & Phrases】

★(動)reckon：「思う」。アメリカでは「guess」が同義語。

★(形)competitive：「競争好きな」。attractive「魅力的な」と一緒に登場。？

★(動)queue：「列に並ぶ」。発音が「キュー」と可愛い。アメリカではlineが同義語。

★(名)umpire：「審判」。refereeとほぼ同義。今Wimbledonがあってるけど、テニスの審判はumpire。

★I'm not sure.：「分かんないけど…/自信ないけど…」。これをよく使っちゃう自分が嫌。笑

★Conditional sentence：「仮定法」。日本人が苦手な仮定法は、他の国のみんなもとっても苦手でした。

★going a bit bald：「ちょっとはげてきてる」。先生が「相手に言う時にはa bitを必ず付けるように！」と強調していた。

全然街を攻略できない…終始迷子。
