【6th week 29/07/17 – 04/08/17】

My family told me it was so humid and hot in Japan. I miss a Japanese hot summer and summer festivals a little bit, but I’m enjoying quite a different summer here.　Now the weather is really cold in the UK, so today I wore tights!

Well, there are three things which I’ve started recently.

1. “Playing the guitar”

I thought that playing the guitar was not my cup of tea, because I had some students and friends who can play the guitar, so I didn’t have to play it. However, I met a teacher in my school who can play the guitar well, and he said I could borrow the school guitar if I want to practice it. Now I have enough time to practice, so I’ve decided to start it. I hope that both my guitar skills and English skills will get better.

2. “Reading a book”

When I was a university student, I met a student whose name was Michiko chan. Now she has graduated the university in England (congrats!), and she gave me advice about reading. Reading books, especially for teens, is really good for studying English because they contain many emotional words and daily conversation so we can learn them in the context. I’ve started to read one of her recommendations. Thank you, Michiko chan.

3. “Jogging”

My host mate Brenda, who is from Switzerland, really likes jogging. I jog with her around the town and the park. She can run fast ( and she is young like 17 as well ) so I can barely keep up with her speed. My host mother’s lovely meals make me bigger so I should keep doing this to be fit .

I’ll do my best not to be a quitter.

家族から、日本は今蒸し蒸ししてとても暑いと聞きました。日本の蒸し暑さと夏祭りがちょっと恋しいけれど、こちらで今までに無い夏を味わっています。今日なんか寒くて風も強かったのでタイツ履いてトレーナー着てました。笑

最近始めたことがいくつか。

★今まで周りにギターが得意な生徒や友達が居てくれていたので、ギターは私が手を出すところではないなぁと思ってました。やってみようと思っても指が痛すぎてすぐ挫折してました。そしたら今通う学校のギターがとても上手い先生が、「練習したいなら学校のギター貸してあげるよ」と言ってくれて、これはチャンスかもしれんと思い始めてみることに。目標は、将来英語の授業で弾きながら生徒一緒に歌うこと。自分の英語と同時にギターも上達することを願います。笑

★教育実習で出会い、先日イギリスの大学を卒業したみちこちゃんが、語彙を増やす方法の一つとして読書のアドバイスをくれました。特に十代向けの本は、感情を表す言葉や日常で使えるフレーズがたくさん出てくるので、とっても勉強になるとのこと。早速オススメの一冊を読み始めました。みちこちゃんありがとう、頑張ります！

★ホストメイトでスイス出身のBrendaはジョギングが大好き。彼女と一緒に街の周りや公園を走っております。Brendaはとにかく走るのが速いため（何てったって若い。ぴちぴちの17歳。）今のところついていくのがやっと…。ホストマザーのおいしい料理のおかげで順調に体重が増量している気がするので、良い運動です。

すべて、三日坊主にならんように頑張ります。

★(形)modest：「控えめな」「謙遜した」。日本ではpositiveな言葉なので訳がたくさんある。笑

★(形)punctual：「時間を守る」。on timeと同意。

★(形)tight-fisted：「ケチな」。

★(動)practise：「練習する」。イギリス英語。アメリカ英語ではpracticeを名詞・動詞どちらでも使える。

初スコッチエッグで食べる前から笑顔が止まらない。笑

タワーブリッジ。6〜9ポンドで登れました。

ロンドンバス可愛い。笑

タワーによくあるガラス床に全力で寝そべるみなさん。

有名なスタジアムらしい。

さすがに1600円だと買えない。。
